I’ve been an editor long before I was a director, and getting that pristine, polished film look on projects has always been a struggle, until I met the Dehancer plugin. If this sounds like an ad, it kinda is, because I’m gonna sell you on why this is my go-to for getting that cinematic look in seconds, not hours.

Dehancer works seamlessly like any other plugin in whatever platform you have, Premiere, AE, Resolve, PS, FCPX, whatever. Drop it on and you have a suite of powerful tools that do a beautiful job at grading your video.

While you can get similar look from using a variety of stock effects that come with your NLE, nothing really comes close to Dehancer in both quality and certainly with ease. Emulate dozen of films stocks, emulsion distortions, grains, and distress in a matter of seconds. Even if you’re not looking for that “old film” look, just adding a emulated stock with some of their image controls will give you amazing results.

It’s funny that DaVinci Resolve 19 just came out yesterday with a similar tool; obviously they were feeling the demand from their users, but after using it I still go with Dehancer every time. It’s not just that it is light on your system resources, playing down like butter, but the quality of the effect is so natural it honestly doesn’t look like you processed your video. I mean, just look at the vignette they offer, it is leaps and bounds beyond what Premiere or Resolve creates with a click of a button. Love that.

There are so many ways and so many tools we have at our disposal these days for creating high impact visuals, it’s wonderful. I however am constantly looking for something that always delivers quickly and with guaranteed results. Through it all Dehancer has been a great companion on this film journey. Check it out, hope it inspires and helps you as well.
