Best Los Angeles Bars 2019

What is the best bar in Los Angeles? This is a question that has plagued academics for literally thousands of years. Here at TravelClast though we are willing to do the hard research to get you answers. So may we offer three unique places we like to throw back a cold one.

First off is Adults Only which for us wins as the world’s finest speakeasy. Located in a very sad little strip mall off Sunset, it is a fully functional VHS rental shop (yep, VHS) in the front, but if you are brave enough to venture past the “adults only” section in the back you are welcomed to a beautifully appointed, spacious palace to booze. Pool tables, zinc bars, and velvet lined sofas will get you intoxicated off the opulence.

Adults Only

Address: 7065 1/2 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90028

Next up is Jones, a long time favorite of ours located on Sunset Blvd. We love Jones because its so LA by not being LA at all. Crowded, but not packed, a scene but you can always get in, it’s got everything that is cool about NY but beautiful about LA. The food here is red sauce delicious, but the real treat are the martini’s, which come with the shaker, giving you basically two drinks for the price of one. Outstanding.

Address: 7205 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046

Last little treasure is Mama Loves You at Mama’s Shelter on Selma Ave in a quiet little Hollywood adjacent neighborhood. This hotel is cool on it’s own, but if you venture up to the roof, you will be greeted to perhaps the greatest roof bar in LA. Fantastic views, lounge beds, foosball, and rose for days, this local spot is a perfect place to suck in some rays as you suck down Tanqueray.

Address: 6500 Selma Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028

The Best Hotel in Los Angeles.

LA has a lot of amazing places to store your bags while you go get a drink. These places we have heard are called “hotels” and you have your work cut out for you finding the perfect one in LA. Do you stay Downtown at the uber cool Ace hotel, or maybe beach it down at Shutters in Santa Monica. For us, our favorite place to catch some zzzz’s is the Line Hotel in the Mid Wilshire district. Line is cool, sleak, and super fun, with a fantastic rooftop lounge and personality to spare. It’s not crazy expensive, and best of all its located in a part of town that has a ton to do, plus, it’s easy to get pretty much anywhere else in this sprawling fun factory they call LA.

The weirdest Store/Museum/Bathroom in LA.

Where the hell do you start with a place like Soap Plant Wacko … I guess the beginning …

1971 this little mom and pop shop opens in Los Feliz and a woman starts selling hand made soaps. Then her husband, who makes wild leather outfits, gets noticed by the NY Dolls and Elton John. Then they expand it to include Wacko, which is basically … well… everything Wacko. Wild gifts, crazy collectables and insane art.

Soap Plant is one of those places that seem otherworldly and can only exist in a place like LA where culture and crazy collide in a beautiful explosion. It’s a fantastic place to just come visit and be introduced to so many things you never knew you really needed in your life. If you need a gift for a person you simply can never buy a gift for, this is the place, and if you need to give yourself the gift of creativity there is no better place to wander round cept Soap Plant.

Pro Tip: go to the bathroom here… you will not be disappointed.

Best Donuts EVER. Kettle Glazed in LA.

In a forgettable micro strip mall under a freeway tucked away in deep Hollywood in the shadow of the Capitol Records building, you will find the best donuts we think on the entire west coast. Kettle Glazed donuts are a category onto their own, not entirely desert, and definitely not a simple fried piece of dough, these sophisticatedly sweet mouth gifts will stun and amaze you.

Kettle Glazed are masters of the traditional staples like your maple, sugar glazed, and cruler, but the real magic happens when they get a bit nuts. We’re talking bacon blueberry, or even lemon poppyseed saffron to start. Half work of art, half a fully acceptable reason for having full blown diabetes, these donuts are worth every pound of guilt you’re going to feel afterwards.

Oh they have amazing coffee too. #yourewelcome

And yeah they deliver.

Los Angeles’ Grand Central Market Tour

Are you hungry? We really hope so because one of our favorite places to visit in LA to chow down is the Grand Central Market in Downtown Los Angeles. This place has a bit of everything from sweets to savory, food to drink, you are bound to find something to tickle your tastebuds.

Grand Central market is the kinda place you love to hate to love. It’s been there in some form or another for nearly a century, and now, in it’s hipsterfied, gentrificated glory it provides nibbles and craft goods for discerning people of means. It’s not an expensive place to experience, but it is surrounded by a downtown rife with a homeless epidemic that is second to none.

As a traveller it is hard to only notice the good in a place and not how good a place is for the world, meaning, we have to wonder if you can truly enjoy yourself being in the epicenter of human tragedy. That said the tacos are really, really tasty.
